The Upper School
The aim of the Covenant Upper School (Grades 7-12) is to cultivate students who embody The Portrait of the Graduate and who, by loving and pursuing proper things, are prepared to engage the world with wisdom and a Christian worldview.
We believe that a positive student experience is vital to our school. Students flourish in a context marked by predictability, support, and in a community oriented by the Gospel and with a commitment to Christian discipleship.
Our school adopted a variety of programs and co-curriculars, in concordance with our curriculum, that meets the social, emotional, and spiritual needs of our students.
Through partnerships with Cedarville University and Marshall University, Covenant School offers Upper School students the opportunity to complete approximately 36 college credit hours by the time of graduation.
The House System
The Upper School House System nurtures fellowship, leadership, and service within the Upper School and provides a structure in which faculty members and students meet the academic, social, and spiritual needs of their housemates.
Each year, rising seventh graders and new students are inducted into one of four Houses where they will remain members throughout their Covenant experience. Houses meet twice weekly and plan social events as well as compete for the House Cup.
House Leadership positions include the Head of House, Captain of Community Life, and Captain of Games.
College and Career Advising
Covenant staff work alongside our students in their junior and senior years to help them identify their calling and navigate the next steps necessary for pursuing their dreams. This includes dedicated time for college and career advising as a part of the student’s schedule.
Covenant Upper School students also take school-sanctioned trips to visit a variety of different colleges. In the past, we’ve taken students to visit Cedarville University, Hillsdale College, Marshall University, The University of Chicago, The University of Notre Dame, Wheaton College, and more!
CO-CURRICULARS
Athletics and Physical Education
We value the disciplines in cultivating the mind, the soul, and the body, which the end goal for our athletics and physical education programs. Students in seventh and eighth grades take formal physical education courses, and all students in grades 9-12 are encouraged to participate in a team sport.
Fine Arts and Music Education
Fine Art and Musical Education trains the heart to engage reality joyfully and with wonder. This mode of education seeks to expand students’ moral imagination as they delight in beauty and the possibilities of God’s creation. Upper School students take specialized music classes in either Choir, Strings, or Classical Guitar.
Young Life
Young Life is an international Christian ministry that exists to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. Young Life Covenant is a ministry of the Greater Huntington Young Life area that serves our Upper School students through club meetings, Bible studies, mentoring, weekend retreats, and summer camp opportunities.
Trail Life and American Heritage Girls
Trail Life USA and American Heritage Girls are both Christ-centered mentoring and discipleship organizations for boys and girls from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Students are challenged to grow in character, understand their purpose, serve their community, and develop practical leadership skills to carry out the mission for which they were created.
